Weekend Preview - In-form Bison Back in Action
29th of January 2010
THE BASINGSTOKE Bison will look to continue their five-game winning streak – currently the best in the English Premier League – as they face Sheffield and leaders Milton Keynes this weekend.

First up for the Herd is a home clash against the Sheffield Scimitars on Saturday night, and hopes are high of another bumper crowd at the Basingstoke Arena for a game which has a 6.30pm face-off. The game will see new signing Shaun Thompson make his debut for Basingstoke, after signing from the Hull Stingrays on Friday.

The last two home games have attracted crowds of 1,100 plus and the Bison are currently |looking invincible on home ice, having |beaten title |challengers Guildford and Manchester in 2010.

The visiting Scimitars are currently just below the Bison in sixth spot in the standings and have had the upper hand over the Herd so far this |campaign. Looking ahead to the game, Basingstoke player/coach Steve Moria said: “They lost here in overtime last time and that could have gone either way. Then both games in Sheffield saw us outplayed. So this is our chance to set the record straight, and that is what we intend to do.”

On Sunday, the Bison face a tough trip to top dogs Milton Keynes Lightning, who enhanced their first place with victories over Guildford and Manchester last weekend.

Basingstoke have lost their two league meetings with the Lightning so far this season, but confidence is high. Moria said: “I believe we are playing our best hockey of the season at the moment. So we are definitely looking to win the game.”
