Weekend Preview - Bison Battle on for Third Spot!
19th of March 2010
The Basingstoke Bison continue their three way fight with the Manchester Phoenix and Guildford Flames for third spot in the English Premier League this weekend.

It will give an extra edge to the Herd’s double header showdown with reigning league champions Peterborough Phantoms.

The Bison will be keen to maintain their 100 per cent home record against last season’s top dogs, when they entertain them on Saturday night. A game which has a 6.30pm start time.

The evening will be a special one for Mister Basingstoke himself Tony Redmond, as he reaches the landmark of 400 league games for the club – the first player ever to achieve this milestone.

The popular Scotsman will be assured a special reception when he takes to the ice and his team mates will be keen to make sure they get the right result on his special night.

The Phantoms despite being sixth in the table are looking for a good run going into the play-offs and the chance to defend their crown.

There is still an outside chance that Basingstoke and Peterborough could meet in a quarter-final showdown - so adding extra spice to the mini series.

This weekend, the Bison will be minus suspended British forward Chris Wiggins due to his match penalty last weekend and accumulated penalty points.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game Bison player/coach Steve Moria said: “They are a strong hockey team and we will have to be sharp and on our game. We really want to get back to winning at home.”

The Herd have lost their last two games at home that after a brilliant run of 12 straight victory at the Basingstoke Arena.

Tickets are still available for Saturday’s game against Peterborough from the box office (01256) 355266, for what is sure to be another great night of family entertainment.

On Sunday night, the Bison travel to Peterborough for a game which has a 5.30pm face-off.

They are up against a team that has not lost on home ice since the Herd beat them last month, winning their last four outings including a 2-1 success over Manchester on Thursday night.

Moria said: “It is a difficult place to go and get a result, but we are playing well on the road at the moment and we will look to continue that.”

This weekend, the Bison’s rivals for third spot, Guildford face a double header weekend with Bracknell, while Manchester have a road trip to Sheffield and then face Romford at home. Both teams currently have one more point than the Herd with four games to play.
