Bison keep alive their hopes for third spot
THE BASINGSTOKE Bison kept themselves in the fight for third spot in the English Premier League, after a comfortable 5-1 victory over the visiting Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday night.
The Herd got off to a great start as Ondrej Lauko scored in the opening three minutes and then man-of-the-match Mindy Kieras fired home a bullet from the blue line to make it 2-0.
The second session saw Ollie Bronnimann convert with a nice wrist shot at 22:48 and then Lauko's second goal of the night took him to 100 league points for the season.
The final session saw Phantoms' Callum Fowler dismissed for talking out of turn at referee Anthony Decaux, while Bison?s Tom Long also headed to the dressing room after he picked up a match for spearing.
Soon after, Lauko completed his hat-trick for the night, before Warren Tait deflected a James Morgan shot to complete the 5-1 scoreline.
The game also saw Tony Redmond become the first Basingstoke player to reach 400 league games for the club.

Phantoms double keeps Bison in third place hunt
THE BASINGSTOKE Bison made sure they are very much in the mix for third place in the English Premier League as the season enters its final weekend.
A superb double was completed over the Peterborough Phantoms at the weekend as after winning 5-1 on home ice, they recorded a 6-4 success in Cambridgeshire on Sunday night.
The result was even better when you consider the Herd were minus captain Nicky Chinn and suspended duo Chris Wiggins and Tom Long.
It was the home side who opened the scoring at 5:47 from Shaun Yardley, only for Ondrej Lauko to tie the game before the first buzzer.
The match was then won with a brilliant 4-0 second session as Shaun Thompson, Andy Hemmings, Lauko and Thompson all found the net forcing the Phantoms to replace starting netminder Stephen Wall with Damian King.
The Bison extended their lead to 6-1 thanks to Hemmings' second of the night, before the Phantoms hit back from Maris Ziedins and James Morgan.
A shorthanded goal from Brent Gough narrowed the advantage to two goals with 2:18 left on the clock, but that was as close as the home side, got as Bison's man-of-the-match Tom Annetts kept them at bay.
See Thursday's Gazette for a full report and a preview of this weekend's games away at Milton Keynes and at home to Swindon.
