TOP British shot stopper Tom Annetts is the latest re-signing for the Basingstoke Bison for their upcoming campaign in the English Premier League.
Last season the 22-year-old proved to be a real fans’ favourite and this was proved when he walked off with the Supporters’ British Player of the Year award.
His team-mates also felt he was key member of their team as he won the players’ player accolade.
This after the Reading-born netminder’s first season with the Herd, in which he returned an impressive 91.1 per cent save rate from over 1,600 minutes in goal.
He started the season sharing netminding duties with Davey Lawrence, who then took over for a spell, but two consecutive defeats saw Annetts given his chance against Slough and he took it with both hands, recording a brilliant shut-out.
That victory was the first of an eight game winning streak, which saw the returning goalie between the pipes for all of them.
Talking about another excellent returnee for the Herd, player/coach Steve Moria said: “Tommy was the best goalie in the league during the second half of the season.
“He is extremely committed and strives to win every time he steps onto the ice.
“That is the mentality I want from every player who pulls a Bison shirt on.”
Annetts said: “I am very pleased to be coming back as I felt last year was a good one for me and I will look to build on that.
“I never expected to win the awards at the end of the season, especially the British players award as there are so many good Brits on the team”
Annetts added: “Last season there were many highlights. The shut-out win over Slough sticks in the memory as well as winning in Manchester and beating Milton Keynes on penalty shots. Mo has shown faith in me and I intend to repay him.”
Following the success of last season’s Own-and-Loan jersey’s, the Basingstoke Bison are proud to announce that fans will once again have the opportunity to ‘Own-and-Loan’ the home and away jersey’s that will be worn by the Bison throughout the 2010/11 season.
Each player’s home and away jersey will be available to purchase at £150 and £120 respectively. All Owners and Loaners will have their name printed on the back of the player’s jersey, as well as having the opportunity of a photograph with their respective player at the end of the season.
Once a player’s signing is announced on the BISON website, the jerseys will become available on a first-come, first-served basis by e-mailing bison.info@planet-ice.co.uk
