Information about Charlie’s Day Unit

Charlie’s Day Unit (CDU) is an ambulatory unit at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire hospital.

The aim of the service is to provide an easily accessible service where children and young people can be reviewed by a senior paediatric team and hospital admissions are avoided where possible.

The service provides assessment, observation, and treatment where necessary, gives advices and discharge support and liaises with the children’s community nursing team if the further care is required at home.

Since opening in 1999, Charlie’s Day Unit has seen a year-on-year increase in sick youngsters using the facility. Last year alone, there were 7,000 attending – seven times more than when the unit first opened.
