Bison smoke Bees in 7 - 4 home victory.
8th of January 2012
A hat-trick from sniper Joe Miller helped the ADD Recycling Basingstoke Bison continue their good form in 2012 as they made it 4 wins in a row with a 7-4 victory on home ice over local rivals Bracknell Bees on Saturday evening. The Bison came out firing on all cylinders and forced several good saves from Bees netminder Carl Ambler, as Ollie Bronnimann, Marcel Petran and Daniel Volrab all went close in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Bison eventually made the breakthrough at 10:41 as Craig Tribe tipped in a Sam Oakford point shot, and player-coach Steve Moria made it 2-0 on the powerplay at 15:32 as he buried the rebound from a Marcel Petran blueline blast, with captain Nicky Chinn also assisting. Bees hit back at 17:34 with a well worked powerplay goal of their own, scored by James Galazzi, assisted by Rob Lamey and Lukas Smital, leaving the score 2-1 in favour of the Bison at the first break.

The end-to-end action continued in the 2nd period, before a spell of 3 goals in just under 60 seconds. Firstly Bees Lukas Smital found himself all alone and he skated in 1-on-1 with Bison netminder Stephen Wall and fired high into the net over Wall’s glove hand to level the game at 2-2, assisted by Shaun Thompson and Sergejs Louskins at 32:10. Then Steve Moria found the net again, assisted by Nicky Chinn and Viktor Kubenko at 32:21, before Martin Masa tied the game yet again at 33:07, assisted by Rob Lamey and Ben Johnson. Bison made it 4-3 as former Bracknell Bee Craig Tribe netted his 2nd of the game at 39:19, after Bees netminder Carl Ambler had left his net to play the puck, but collided with Bison forward Chris Wiggins as he tried to return to the net, Craig Tribe picked up the loose puck and fired into the empty net. Bees were incensed as they felt Ambler had been unfairly prevented from returning to his net, and forward Rob Lamey picked up a 10-minute misconduct for complaining to the match referee that the goal shouldn’t have been allowed to stand, and continued his protests to the referee as the period ended.

Bison extended their lead to 5-3 on the powerplay at 47:14 as Daniel Volrab skated behind the net, and fed Joe Miller in the slot who one-timed the puck past Ambler low blocker side. Miller and Volrab combined again just over 2 minutes later to make the score 6-3, again on the powerplay, as Volrab took a pass from Steve Moria at the side of the net, and slid the puck across the crease for Miller to tap in at the far post at 49:34. Bees hit back again at 57:27, as Rob Lamey found the net on a 5-on-3 powerplay, assisted by Shaun Thompson and James Galazzi, before Joe Miller rounded out the scoring with his hat-trick goal, this time shorthanded as he collected a Steve Moria pass and beat Ambler 1-on-1 at 58:58, leaving the score 7-4 to the Bison.

Daniel Volrab and Andy Munroe won the man-of-the-match awards. Bison look to make it 5 wins in a row when they travel to Peterborough on Sunday to face the Phantoms for the 2nd time in 7 days.
